Frequently asked questions.

Starting counselling is a big step, and it’s natural to have questions.

Below are some common questions clients often ask before beginning counselling.
If you have any other questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out.

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, confidential space to explore challenges you may be facing in your life. Through conversation, reflection, and practical strategies, counselling can help you build greater understanding, find new perspectives, and develop tools for coping and growth.

How do I book my first appointment?

Give Adrian a call, leave a message, or email and he’ll will be in touch within 24 hrs (Mon-Fri). Alternatively you can book a free 20 minute discovery call online here.

You’ll have the chance to ask questions, discuss any concerns, and get a sense of how the counselling process works.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. Adrian will invite you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve.

The first session does involve a lot of background information gathering, however this is beneficial for the therapeutic process in subsequent sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your individual goals and circumstances.

Some people benefit from a few focused sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. Adrian will work collaboratively with you to review your progress regularly and adjust the approach to best meet your needs.

How long is each session?

Counselling sessions are 60 minutes long for individuals, and 90 minutes long for couples.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a core part of counselling.

What you discuss in sessions remains private, except in very rare circumstances where there is a legal or ethical obligation to act (such as concerns about safety).

Adrian will explain confidentiality clearly during your first session so you can feel comfortable and informed.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least 48 hours' notice.

Late cancellations or missed appointments will incur a cancellation fee equal to 75% of the appointment fee, as the time has been set aside for you.

Can I claim on Medicare or Private Health Insurance?

At this time, Medicare rebates are not available for Counselling and Psychotherapy services.

Adrian is a registered provider with a majority of Private Health Insurers, and with the appropriate level of ancillary cover you may be able to claim a portion of your session fees through your private health insurer. Please contact Adrian to discuss.
